Robert Mize | Environmental Portraits

About this Artist

“I shoot people and occasionally cut off the tops of their heads.” No, its not what you think. I am a seventy three year old photographer and I like taking pictures of people. I am a retired military transport pilot and high school teacher. I like people. Photography has always been a way for me to meet them and share my passion for life. When I reflect back on my life, my most cherished memories have always captured in photographs.

About this Work

An environmental portrait is a portrait of an individual taken in the subject’s usual environment — their home or workplace. The objective of the portrait is to illuminate the subject’s character and portray the essence of their personality, rather than merely a likeness of their physical features. In my work, I chose to portray teachers or administrators in their environments. In each photo, I asked each subject to bring in something to include in the photo that represented something they loved or enjoyed doing outside the classroom or office.
