Kirstin Rawle | Capricious – A Photographic Exploration of Bipolar Disorder

About this Artist

Kirstin is a Bellingham, WA based portrait photographer whose mission in photography is to capture and celebrate individuality in everyone she photographs. Having grown up surrounded by artists and being immersed in the arts, it was clear that she wanted a career in the arts also. She hopes to take her current photography business with her to Europe and pursue fashion photography.

About this Work

This project is an exploration of my experience as someone living with bipolar disorder and a way to share that with others. Bipolar disorder alters the way I experience the world around me. This altered experience varies depending on the mental state or type of episode I am experiencing in that moment. The following images consist of three couplets, depicting how I experience the three types of episodes: depressive, mixed symptom, and manic. The first image of each couplet is a self-portrait: the second is a point of view shot representative of my experience.
