Lisa Valdez | Immortal

About this Artist:
I am an observer by nature and this project would be a confluence of my interests in photography, art history, and travel. I hope this project piques an interest for you to visit Paris and Italy to see these wonderful works with your own eyes. As a native Washingtonian the body of my work has been inspired from the observation of birds, animals, and the nature of my surroundings.

About this Work:
These works of art have withstood and “seen” many centuries of human history thus making them immortal like the idealized Greek and Roman mythological gods they represent. As a child I was enchanted by Jean Cocteau’s 1946 French cinematic masterpiece La Belle et la Bête (Beauty and the Beast). Cocteau’s surrealistic style and strong contrast in his lighting provided dreamy and haunting images of “living” sculptures. I kept thinking of those images as I viewed these works of art. Through my photos I hope to share my study of these works with a curtsy to Cocteau’s inspiration.
